Transilient was founded as a traveling multimedia documentary project that candidly documented the everyday lived realities of transgender and non-binary people—using only their voices and stories, and produced entirely by a team of trans creators. While our initial iteration took shape as a powerful photo and interview series, our next chapter will be a production house of trans and queer media and film. Our next project is a full-length documentary film titled Fixin’ to Stay. At its core, Transilient exists to create a platform that informs, affirms, and connects people—both within and beyond the trans community—through honest storytelling and radical collaboration.

We got to spend lunch time with 6 year old Kirin and her parents in Bloomington, Indiana today. She and her family instilled us with a lot of hope for a bright future. Basil is 32 and he didn't think he'd ever spend so much time with children like Kirin in his lifetime because transitioning as a child wasn't an option for him and so many others. Not only are her folks affirming and supportive but Kirin is a confident fire cracker who knows who she is and what she wants. We are lucky to all share an earth with trans kids.

The long fight for recognition and visibility of one of America's most marginalized communities saw a victory in the first Democratic debate on Wednesday night. Sen. Cory Booker and former Housing and Urban Development secretary Julián Castro both brought up transgender rights issues in the June 26 debate, and to some, the mere fact that transgender rights came up at the Democratic debate merits a celebration — but according to other activists, none of the candidates addressed the matter in a truly comprehensive way.
